Session 5

This week I really enjoyed having the opportunity to create a rubric for an upcoming project that I am doing in my U.S. history classes. The project is on the 1950s and 1960s and students are to take their chosen topic and create a PowerPoint presentation. I was glad that I was able to take into account many of the things that I learned from both Presentation Zen and the many projects that we did to make this project and rubric much better than it would have been. I think that the project now is much more geared towards digital storytelling and I also plan to have the students use Animoto to create a 30 second "trailer" of their topic to get all in the class excited about their up coming topic.

Overall, I am sad that this class is coming to an end because I really found much of what we did to be very applicable to my own classroom today and I have already utilized so much. I also feel like I have become much more aware of the things that make me a good storyteller/presenter and also those things that I need to do to become a better one.

  1. Jenny, have no fear, there are a lot of classes left to take before we have our certification. However, I do agree that a lot of what we learned in class is very applicable to what I am currently doing in the classroom.

What a great tease for the class to see an Animoto preview. As an audience member, it would help me focus because I would know what to listen for. At my conference last week, one LMS that I went to hear speak said that some of her students created book trailers. The other students saw them and said that the trailers were much better than the actual books (and accused them of false advertising). I wonder if your student's presentations will meet expectations, exceed or leave something wanting. Very interesting idea.

  2. I really, really enjoyed reading your blog. I also really agree that this class has been good for really finding new applications for various technologies or programs that are free of charge.

I too think that in many ways this program is great for examining what is currently going on in education. Furthermore, I wonder what the cataloging course will be like.
